    Well basically the size of the crystalline structure and the amount of other mineral impurities in the material determine the name. All chert, chalcedony, agate, jasper, and flint are actually types of crystal. High silica in the material will give it a smooth “waxy” texture. The red color is almost always an iron impurity. Very awesome artifact regardless of what ya want to call it!

      explaining the different types..always like to learn new materials. The third piece from this collection came in today will post a pic in a few..the seller thinks this one is actually chalcedony

        Seller thinks rose quartz. . White quartz then the smaller one chalcedony
