A lot of our points with patina are translucent. I do not recommend oiling points...but....once in a while you gotta see the real thing under the patina. If the material is not porous the oil can be removed with acetone. First two pics are coral points as found. The rest of the pics are of a Woodland Columbia point that had white patina on it when found. Following pics are 12 hrs in oil, 30 hrs in oil. After soaking in acetone this point looks just like it did when found.

I oiled one of mine and it turned dark so acetone will bring it back?

An acetone soak should really work. No harm in trying. Any points that I have oiled have been soaked in acetone to remove the oil. Only a few slightly porous ones took a long time/ What type of oil did you use? Only use pure light mineral oil.

I know this is an old thread but still wanted to share! This green beauty is a recent find and you all may have seen it in another thread as i was trying to find out exactly what material it is. And the other is from a few years back but also a favorite and i also included an image of it “in the wild”.
