  • Texas Panhandle Hand Axe

I found this hand axe in the Texas Panhandle during turkey season this year. It's always interesting to find something in a road cut. Makes you wonder what else is hiding just under the dirt. Not much else to say about it, but I thought it was pretty cool so I thought I'd share.

Thanks. Always surprising to find something so big when the eyes are focused on much smaller things.

Talk about big. One of my net sinkers I found 6 months ago weighs 25 pounds ...we think it's an anchor for weighing down huge ners fir a fish weir

Does it have another side to it or just the one? It’s nice but the other side might help to know the age of it

I’d like to see the other side, like SH. That grey basalt is a common lithic material on the south plains. I’d could be a core as I see several scars....JJ

With the cortex left on probably for hand comfort I think it’s a type of chopper or hand ax as you said. Display the nice side in a frame and nobody will know the difference

I actually have it in a glass top side table. It looks great.
