  • My favorite quartz point

I picked this point up in a field near the Congaree river in Richland County SC back in 1964. The field was completely covered with broken pottery shards, I was amazed knowing the brittle nature of quartz that it survived the plow.

Nice point, what is the type. Looks similar to a Gary or Adena.

Not sure about the type, the base is a bit squared off for the typical Gary or Adena

Nice Morrow Mountains, Butch! I know as you say it's hard to find nice quartz points, they are few and far between. But quartz is not really brittle, it's some of the toughest hardest lithic material in our region. When it is cooperative to the knapper, it is some of the prettiest material there is IMO! When I can, I'll post some of my blacklit frames of NC quartz.

I would love to see them Cliff I have some Quartz points as well everytime i bang on a piece of quatrz it shatters. I debated on calling this point a morrow mountain, just didn't seem right most of my morrow mountains are milky quartz.
