This “Fishtail” Dalton is made from a high grade Arkansas Black Pitkins chert. It has a heavy patina and measures right at 6 & 1/2 inches in length and over 1 & 3/4” width. It’s not a g10 but I have always wanted a nice example of this type. I google searched Fishtail points images and this one showed up and it was for sale. It’s the most expensive point that I have purchased so far but I don’t believe that I will find one of these near this size. I believe this is also considered the early version with the auricles connecting directly to the upward shoulders. The later version went to the straight shoulder over the auricles including the Greenbrier variant.

You win Best Big Beautiful Point contest! And, most important, it’s old, old, old...... I think you should name it......
Not being silly when say name it since high $ value in addition to already being priceless, or when say your post prompted me pull out and read about auricles (ears?) changing.

That's a weird looking base. Cool though!

                Absolutely wonderful.

I'm curious about the tip too.

Is it that way by design or fracture, as utilized flake asked?

It was found in Hughes county Oklahoma but the pitkin chert is from western Arkansas
