  • Winged Bannerstone, Gneiss

Acquired from great granddaughter of the farmer who plowed it up along shore of a Finger Lake in NYS. It's 5.5 inches long, weighs 11 ounces; I see no damage at all on the piece. Some think these must have been strictly ceremonial because of their size and weight; and some say were crafted out of gneiss (..maybe garnetiferous gneiss for all you rock hounds....I can't tell the difference) because of the way gneiss resembles the plumage of raptors. The shape of this piece DOES resemble the wings of raptors in flight, if you ask me!

I am happy to be caretaker for this piece.
