I was hoping someone would comment on the material. It looks kind of like wood but it is different than all the rest of the petrified wood we find and it is everywhere out here. I was thinking more towards a banded chert but wasn't sure.

That is a knockout artifact. I love everything about that piece. The odd shape, fantastic flaking and the material is outstanding.

Great combo... A horses hoof plane and a duckbill type scraper...the planes are thought to be woodworking tools...Extremely nice tool...

Talk about a great piece! That banding really stands out. Was it hard to see when you first found it?

I think I’d have to keep it in my pocket everyday.

                That is super cool!

I don't think the rounded (thick end) is a scraper, I think it's an absolutely spectacular blade core!

It's not classic Clovis blade core, but from Wyoming I don't know what else it would be. Some of the later groups used bladelets, but typically off very small cores.
                Hong Kong, but from Indiana/Florida

Thanks for your opinion. It helps to understand it's unique shape. Makes complete sense now.

Fabulous. I agree with clovisoid. I think it's a micro-core that has been repurposed to a blade/scraper or a blade/scraper that has been utilised as a core. Difficult to say which way round, but I would say the former.

Amazing artifact. That’s one I would probably never set down. Just holding and marveling at the beauty, craftsmanship and history of such a piece can send me to a different time and place. Thanks for sharing.
