The wife and I took a trip to Cahokia this past summer. If you ever get a chance to go I highly recommend it. The place is stunning. It is something that you have to see with your own eyes to fully appreciate. The scale of the whole complex and the size of the mounds is jaw dropping, and the interpretive center is very impressive. Also, if you do get a chance to go, stay in St. Louis and drive over. The accommodations on the Illinois side leave alot to be desired and St. Louis is just a really beautiful place. Here are some pics

What an amazing site, ...I can’t behave around sites like that, I’d have to wander over to that patch of ground in pic 3, ..Probably end up in jail....I have a hard time believing twin mounds were never at least partially excavated by someone, what’s the diameters,?Floridaboy.

Dont think I didnt have one eye on the ground at all times, 😂😂😂. I guess as far as their records go they dont have any evidence of an excavation of the twin mounds. I guess it is possible that some people way back when could have dug in them a bit, but they have a pretty good idea of the modern history of the mounds in the area. I cant remember the size parameters of the twin mounds but they are quite impressive and quite large.

Wow! It’s been on my bucket list for years. My daughter lives just 1 1/2 hrs from there but when I mentioned a visit, she said she needed 2 months warning so she can clean her house!! 🤢 She’s not kidding either.
She did tell me several of the outlying mounds were bulldozed to make way for the interstate going through there. Archaeologists worked like crazy alongside the bulldozers to save what they could.Child of the tides
