I saw a similar map in a treasure Hunter's Pawn Shop, but it had the lower part included. It showed hwy 71 out of Hot Spring to Fort Smith AR.  as an Indian trial. He told me a lot of the current roads were old Indian trails, The settlers followed them, wagon trains and so on, it was the path of least resistants. If you ever take 271 and 71 hwy out of Fort Smith you will see how it winds around mountains then follows river valley when possible. I told him that explained everything! Why no road in arkansas is straight, : being Okie flat lander I swore they rather put a curve in the road than go straight. :rolf:
