  • Millstone Bluff Illinois

Stopped here the other day and walked around. Very interesting site. As you arrive in the parking area you see the bluff and the area that was a rock quarry many years ago. They quarried the stone that used for the Millstones.

Then you make you way up the trail to the top of the bluff where an entire village used to exist many many many years ago.

Hopefully you can make out the carving in the pics. It's so beautiful and untouched.

While standing at the platform looking at the carvings I heard a ruckus in the leaves below . Saw these beautiful turkeys passing by. I grew up in a time when we didn't have wild turkeys in Illinois. Seeing them everywhere in the state now is pretty cool.

And you can see by the sign for the carvings. They had turkeys way back then. So cool.

My memory of the exact years was a little foggy. I had to look it up.

An introduction program began in 1959 when seven turkeys from Mississippi were released into southern Illinois. For the next 40 years, wild turkeys have been captured and released throughout the state, and in 1970, Illinois held its first wild hunting season in 67 years in southern Illinois, according to IDNR.Nov 24, 2015
