  • Bone "Pins"

    These are from Tampa Bay but they are the same almost everywhere. Made from deer long bones. One pic shows where they scored around the neck of the bone-end to get bone tubes that they scored again longways to split into long "blanks" for tools. Then abraded to sharpen or work. One long bone can make at least 4 bone pins if worked carefully, many are found broken during manufacture.

      Yes, they are fairly common and preserve well in midden soil and also when hard as rocks from old ones being in water. Usually find just pieces of course. We preserve them with Duco-Acetone.

        Bone is something that has no staying power in the soils here, Thanks for sharing those Tom.
