Several years ago I really fell in love with the quality of bone tools found at Mandan/Arikara sites along the Missouri River in the Dakotas. 3 or 4 years ago I found an auction and ended up buying a lot of cool tools and started this frame.
More recently part of the Loitwood family collection came up for auction, and I was kind of bummed because the auctioneer doesn’t do online bidding. A great artifact friend, Quito/Joel from South Dakota was also going to the Loitwood Auction, so I worked out a deal with the auctioneer and asked Joel to do some bidding for me.
Here is the original frame, and some new additions for it. Bone fishhooks are only found in a couple parts of the US, but they were probably widely used. I added these to my collection because they show the process of how hooks were made.
