  • Indian pipe info

I found this totally intact indian pipe while snorkeling in the Au Sable River in NE Michigan Oscoda. The AuSable River empties into Lake Huron. I found in about 8 feet of water about 3 miles from the mouth. Any ideas about what type of pipe it is?
    Thanks...

What is it made of. Is it stone?

I don't think it is stone...It looks more like something that would have been fired and it has a sand-like texture like the sand was mixed in the material.

Might be a French trade pipe.

I was told it could possibly be an Iroquios "trumpet" pipe that could have had painted decorations on it at one time.

similar pipes listed in "Indian and Eskimo Artifacts of North America" by Charles Miles. Page 179, 215 "Trumpet shaped Iroquois pottery pipes "...."Eastern Woodland Pipes "
