  • Pottery from Cedar Key, Florida, No.11

This is a partial Weeden Island Ceremonial vessel, pic.1...It’s 9” tall and was recovered in Cedar Key Florida in 1968.....it is a double globe type, and most likely did not have an animal or bird effigy on top as effigy bowls were not usually incised or punctuated with a design.....This design incorporates the classic punctuated circles and triangles, pic.2 ( they were meticulously arranged in the correct position, triangles facing a certain way etc. according to thier beliefs ) the weeping eye, top right, and the forked eye, bott left are also present, which are Southern cult motifs....Pic.3 are examples of forked geometric designs, a southern complex motif...The right side of the design is like the left side...So I did a sketch of the whole panel, and looking at it it doesn’t look friendly...Again, symbolism can sometimes be hard to nail down because it was more the intent more than the realism .

Another awesome display Hal, I would be on cloud 10+ even if I found one piece of pottery with any designs close to what you have.
