Some things seem related,, I call this, The Sunset and the Egg,, as seem from my yard.

This one isn't the highest on the eye candy index, but the cubes are the thing. They are pseudomorphs after chabazite,,, hydrated calcium aluminum silicate. At the size they are in an egg is unheard of.

Bill that is a great egg. I sure would like to know something about the rings on the "Porthole" and why the cracks pass through the rings. Amazing rock.

To a mineralogist, this pseudomorph is way over the top. Growing from the bottom chamber, going through the gap, and filling the top chamber. (Reminds me of the onions I forgot about in my drawer )

Thanks Ken. I'm still waiting to find an arrowhead made out of these materials. I've seen a few made out of this Chihuahua desert agate, but I don't own them,,, sigh.

Chase, it's the brightness, contrast, relative size for this type, flawlessness, and esthetics, the way each band is a different color.

All eggs have beauty, some is outward eye candy, some comes from within. Here is the same egg shot with normal daylight, then with shortwave ultraviolet. I love them all.

Big heavy agate 5 inches across. The sharp dividing lines between lighter and darker areas in the face is an optical effect called shadow or parallax, resulting from the closeness of finely sized fortification banding. When the face of the agate is tilted a degree or two, those shadow areas actually move in the face as if a liquid were shimmering under the translucent surface.

All I can say is Wow!! What a beautiful and diverse collection! I grew up in Alamogordo, and spent a lot of time in Deming and Silver City growing up. I sure wish I knew about these when I lived there. I would love to collect and polish some of these someday. I have something to add to my bucket list now! Thanks so much for sharing these beauties!

Sadly 5 ft 5, my house isn't that large, but I compensate by keeping some under the pillow. Yes, it's lumpy, but sometimes you have to sacrifice for the sake of your art.

Rich color and extreme parallax make this a top shelf specimen. The surface appears to be liquid there is so much optical effect in the agate.
