I am no expert but if memory serves Hawaii is completely volcanic.
I suspect that what you are showing is the edge of a lava flow.

Interested to hear what it turns out to be. I see were Bruce is coming from with Lava flow and that may likely be what it is, but I also have heard that on Volcanic islands the growing magma chambers can lift the sea floor above sea level wich might also make coral reef a possibility. I know little about either but I know that the volcanic material I've seen from Hawaii is dark red and almost black... And the first photo looks lighter like bleached coral. Other than that I have no idea.

A+Josh , yeah this is almost like fossil sandstone ?
              in Cal .
The pahoehoe lava looks like twisted rope or a welder did it .
There is the A'a lava pronounced
ah ah . Those are the big chunks of black rock .
so many types but mostly black .
If I can ever get down to this one beach way out in the country there is a place where you can see the lava under the exposed coral .
I am no expert just years of listening to the locals .
We have an arrowhead shaped piece of coral my husband calls the Lelo and stitch tribe .
These guys already know I am crazy so might as well post that thing .
