    I am sure what you were seeing was shell midden, That is the only way bones will be preserved in our acidic soil. If it was not in a field where they were plowed up I would be careful in areas like that.

    Now this is not saying much, but I found tons of oyster shells in that camp in Georgia. I know that the Native Americans put them there though.

    I may have posted this before but it is interesting. I used to go to a ditch where you could see this and would pick up sand dollars 120 miles inland.
