    Could also be mud that has turned solid I find grey mud in one of my creeks that does it.

    Looks like a heavy creek stained patina on a piece of limestone. I found similar rock in a stream here and used another rock to chip a piece off to see a glowing white limestone under the crust. The white rock canvas gets a bright orange glow when there is a high iron/mineral content in the water that attaches to it over time making a cool patina.They are eye catching in the water also lol

    Found this while wading up a creek.....vibrant orange glowing in the water....pretty light weight rock.....think it is some sort of pumice or volcanic rock.....found in Robertson co tn Click image for larger version
