In the comming weeks we will be doing some much needed server maintenance. The site may become inaccessable for a day or two during this process. Please be patient as we work to make the forum experience better for all of you.
We need more information and photos with scale a us quarter is an inch or a ruler. Photos of the entire rock so we know how big it is. Oh and what county and state was it found in? We can help but first help yourself by providing more info and photos. Welcome to arrowheads.com

Sure would be happy to give you all I know.
I was digging for a pond in Schenectady Co. NY. On some land that was just empty and never had been as I am aware build on. Lots of CLAY around and some shale but mostly clay.
TONS of large rocks etc. here are some more pictures
Looks like you need a visit to a major library in your area and some consultation with old maps. If you're finding tons of rocks like this then there must for sure have been something constructed in this area. Six feet down is not necessarily an indication of great antiquity... especially not in clay soils and also not if those stones represent the foundation for something.
I keep six honest serving-men (they taught me all I knew); Their names are What and Why and When and How and Where and Who.
