Most folks don’t know you can hunt for diamonds here at a state park. I think it costs $5 or $10 a day per person, Ripken find diamonds there all the time. Probably on e or twice a month someone finds a nice 1 or 2 carat stone, but this one is exceptionally large.

Kevin Kinard, a 33-year-old bank branch manager from Maumelle, Ark., visited Arkansas's Crater of Diamonds State Park and found a HUGE, 9.07-carat diamond while surface searching. News about this historic find has spread far and wide. Yesterday, it was discussed on the nationally televised Kelly and Ryan Show.

Yeah, I was gonna make a trip up that way years ago, never made it.on guy found a yellow one, I think, ..that was a special meteor.

I could be wrong ( that happens a lot) but seems like they’re found in a meteor crater.

No sir. Ancient vent/caldera from an old volcano, apparently.

A private company did some deep drilling there years ago to see if it was worth commercially mining....I’ve seen a cool image somewhere of a 3-D rendition of the “volcano”.

My grandmother went there once. She didn't find any diamonds, but she found crystal quartz and other neat stuff there.
