This large jasper rock was covered in liken, having sat outside in one spot for decades, when I realized what it was. Recovered on my grandparents place, probably during landscaping or driveway grating. Sonoma CA. Very heavy. Jasper is indigenous to the area and I’ve found a good amount of small and medium sized pieces but this is by far the biggest.

I would if it wasn’t something my ancestors found as is and appreciated. I have a few pieces I’d like to tumble or mess with in some way.

Most of the obsidian that I use to knapp, came from my grandparent's garden in Oregon. My grandpa used to bring home all kinds of beautiful stones. Sure makes me miss them.

Love this!!! I'd love to see the inside. I read surface materials are often freeze cracked and not so good for knapping. And so that's the reason for digging pits for new material.New Jersey
