So you don't believe it's a native American artifact?

I thought it might be part of an ancient tool.

Hey Wheels,  :welcome: to the forum.
I don't see any evidence that the stone was altered by man. No knapping, grinding, or pecking. I believe it's natural; not an artifact.

Wheels where is it from, what state?  in the south eastern states there is a stone called claystone that is dark and shiny like that. Hematite   can have that look to it as well but will feel heavy for its size.
I am with the rest here in my opinion I am not seeing any alteration from human hands it looks natural to me.

Hoss, it's from an elderly relative that's deceased so I can't find out it's origin but it is definitely heavy for the size. Thanks.

Possibly hematite but I am sure as the others are that this is not an artifact.
