I found these rocks in my yard. Upon closer investigation of where these came from in my yard I found they are mixed with gravel that was laid prior to the black top in my driveway. I have found more near the mail box out front too. I talked to the construction manager who built the sub division we are in. He told me in the several years long project he did not recall any workers finding any artifacts. He told me that gravel was brought in and dumped strategically around the site in piles and used as needed for compaction under all of the mailboxes which are brick 2' x 2' wide x4' tall. It is crushed gravel and under all the driveways too. Under every slab that each house was built on. I estimate there are maybe 150 ranch and raised ranch homes in the subdivision. This gravel is absolutely everywhere. I doubt I will try and knapp any but have a look at this piece I found today. It appears to be rhyolite to me or some other volcanic tuff. The lighter colored piece is heavily patinated. There is a tiny chip out of it that shows a very dark grey underneath. The oval piece actually looks to have platforms set up around the wider part of each perimeter. Triple A battery inserted for scale.

What is even more unusual is how it all appears to be patinated. Upon looking I have found a ton of this lining the edges of my driveway. Not all of it looks like this but it is all grey looking either rhyolite or soe other grainy looking volcanic rock.TN formerly CT Visit our store http://stores.arrowheads.com/store.p...m-Trading-Post

When I used to fish up in the Catskills in NY there was a section of Esopus Creek that had boulders placed along the bank there for flood control . Anyone familiar with that area it is right behind the Catamount Restaurant at the Emerson resort. All of the boulders on the near side of the river to the Catamount but just down stream a stones throw have small lens shaped deposits of Esopus Creek Chert in them. I wonder how many rock quarries around the country crush and sell good lithics. I have knapped Esopus Creek it aint that good! LOL I did not get mine from that place but a friend had some and let me give it a try. The amount in the lenses at this location I have mentioned are not even worth going after.TN formerly CT Visit our store http://stores.arrowheads.com/store.p...m-Trading-Post

Chuck I thought the lighter colored stuff might have been lime rock but the dark inside tells me otherwise.TN formerly CT Visit our store http://stores.arrowheads.com/store.p...m-Trading-Post

Going to make a point here to never stop looking !
I have a friend that is a archeologist . He right now is on a team that is brought out to conduction sites
where big digs are done for high rises or large mini malls . They are specifically there to look for any
articfacts , bones etc. and put a hult to the project .
This as you know can cost the construction co monies not factored into the project . The stories we get are so amazing . Coins , bones , an insect but each state is perticular in there objectives on this matter .
So Hoss your material could have very well have come
from an area yes with artifacts with no one overseeing the area or the rules are different in that state . I like that you contacted the origin BUT and in all due respect to every constrator out there just keep looking . I can't tell you how many times my husband says jokingly please just throw it over the
fence to him . Everyone one is up and aboard on archeological finds but many slip through .
SO KEEP LOOKING .

The pics here are just gravel I put them up to show that crushed stone can fool people into believing it was debitage because it will sometimes break with a conchoidal fracture similar to that seen from NA sites.TN formerly CT Visit our store http://stores.arrowheads.com/store.p...m-Trading-Post
