I just found this the other day in Waxhaw

I found this during one of my hikes in Waxhaw. Its an area where I find many chips and arrowheads but I've never come across anything like this. It looks like a club head. Here is a pic. Has anyone seen one of these in the NC area? Its about the size of my palm. About 4-5 inches in length.

Looks like an artifact to me but I have no idea what you found there! Sure Cliff will have an answer for you!!

Sorry Chet, but it is a naturally eroded rock. The softer layers in the iron-rich sandstone type rock have eroded away to leave the grooved rock you found. It is not an artifact.

Thanks--Its amazing how symmetrical the grooves are around the stone.
