I see a shell impression  embedded in it and by the shape it looks like it was in a moving body of water .

yes it was found in the river it looks like some type of axe it has working marks on it back an front side

It's sedimentary rock with shell impression- not uncommon for Alabama. Not an axe, tho.  Because of the nature of that material, water and nature would create the dings you think are man-made.  Keep looking, tho!
