    Yes. A band or bands of softer material eroded, scoured out. This often happens when rocks are embedded in a creek bed that doesn't have a lot of flow. Sand and rocks scour past it. The eroded part almost always has a V shape where the point of the V was pointing upstream...

        Found this years ago. The groove was the only part showing through the soil. You can imagine the deflation when I unearthed it. I kept it though just for this very reason.
        The chase is better than the catch...
