  • Yay a find!

I found these in a creek after high water and lots of wind really stirred things up. haven’t had such a productive hunt in a few years. Super happy to have found several different types of points, as well as some pottery and tools.! Central North Carolina finds. Happy hunting!

Thanks Sugaree, I was tickled pink about the pink too! Would you like to try and type the one with the pink in it?

Well honestly I don't have much in my ID this time except it is an Absolutely beauty. I will throw out a couple of names for discussion Holmes? The Stemmed base doesn't have as much concave as the ones I've seen. Another thought Pickwick that has lost is usual form from sharpening. Well hopefully we can at least get a discussion going about the type.

Thanks for the suggestions on point type Sugaree I think you may be on to something! I have never knowingly found either of the types you mentioned, and I need to do some research. Happy hunting

Thanks surface hunter, yes the green is rhyolite. Most of my finds are rhyolite even though the color can appear much different from blue-green to pale gray-dark black and even some with speckles. The highly acidic soil here can put quite the patina on a stone depending on the material.

What would you call the last one? I have found a couple with the same type of base.

The lanceolate style point that was plucked out the water I think is a stemmed guilford. Most of my guilford finds are not stemmed, it’s a pretty narrow stem for such a big piece. Cheers!
