  • Central NC Paleo???

Hello friends! It's been quite a while since I last posted, apologies. Been looking but not finding much besides mosquitoes and chiggers here. Until today! I decided to check a spot that I hadn't visited for a couple of years, since it's a pain of a bushwhack to get to, but it was much easier today due to low water levels. Saw just the outline of the tip of this one showing in the mud, and figured it was probably just a big rock. But, might as well try to flip it anyway. First try, it barely moved, it was suctioned in so tight. Second try, out flipped a quartz beauty!!! I was in shock and didn't believe it until I washed it off - Clovis??? I nearly wet my pants! She's pretty green with algae from being in the water so long, but she is gorgeous! Opinions please? Also, should I try to clean her up or leave the "green meanie" as is? I'd love to see what see looked like when she was new. Thanks for looking! Click image for larger version

Thanks for the tips, I really do want to clean her up! I've got a few other quartz points that I've scrubbed with an old toothbrush with varying results.

Looks like you found a Hazel Clovis! That is one of the most beautiful types of points and your point is made from quartz! Wow wow wow! Don’t even know what else to say…

And the hiker gal pulls another stunner… congratulations, you’ve found what we all have been searching for, and few of us ever find… I’d leave her as is, but if you do clean her up, you better show us the before and after pics…. I see another find of the month for you… don’t forget to enter….✌️

3 inches or so? It is near first stage and that is on the small side for early stage. Likely the material was small to begin. It is quite a valuable find. Please be gentle with the cleaning or you may hurt value.

WOW X2 Mel! I think it's beautiful as it sits. I would not clean it. The ancient Clovis knapper was very talented to knap that beauty. Outstanding in every way!

Once I cleaned a point by scrubbing to hard and it had a hairline fracture and it broke the dirt was holding it together maybe just try the dry brush to remove the green should come right off when it dries really good
