Hit a site today that used to sit on an old river meander path. Pulled a really nice Etley made out of either crowley's ridge chert or novaculite, and 2 Madison points. The white madison has an ear ding and a reshaped tip. The brownish Madison has been turned into a hafted scraper after what I can only assume was a break. Does anyone else have an example of a madison scraper? Anyway, here are some pictures!

Thank you. Found it at the mouth of a ditch that helps drain this segment of the field.

      .
Outstanding etley, rare for my area
other than the tips, I’ve never seen a reworked madison…. Madison scraper?…. I see more a oneota culture triangle. A later and larger trianglular point.. found in the upper Midwest.
if they stretch south , into Missouri I’m uncertain.
      keep kick’n dirt….✌️

Thank you! I'm going to go digging for some papers on point assemblages at Madison sites and see if there are examples

A few examples, of what I believe are oneota culture… the length to width, just doesn’t match the typical madison point… your point on the left, does resemble a Madison, with a reworked tip.
the one on the right, I do not think it was reworked to a scraper… just my 2 cents worth.

I appreciate the input. I'll try to get some clearer pics of the flaking on the tip end bc there is definitely some there. I am open to it being something other than a madison.

Thank you! It does cut a striking figure. I'll post some pics of it dry later today. It does look heat treated, which would be uncommon for the type. We have a local material that naturally looks alot like this called crowleys ridge chert, but if it is novaculite it probably is heat treated.

Thank you! Might just call them woodland triangles and not worry too much about it, but the rework does have me wondering some things. Lol, there are plenty of brokers, they just don't make me feel as good as the ones I post. Maybe I'll make a post of all the ones that made me sad.
