  • Overshot flake turned multi tool.

Two hours of nothing turned out ok because I picked up this little flake on the way out of the creek yesterday. A closer look revealed it's worked all over. I believe it's an overshot flake that was turned into a mutli tool. Thumb scraper on the one end. The bulb and platform are worked down into the tip at the other end, and worked up both sides to turn it into a blade. I know it's not as grand as I large point but I love artifacts like this that have a whole lot of little things going on.

Couple nice spurs on it too. Might be a Clovis tool. I like it.

Was thinking with it being an overshot flake there was a chance of it being an old tool. Don't find too many things older than woodland on this site, but it has me wondering.

sometimes more interesting than a nice point. Figuring out its story and purpose.

Points are hard to come by on this site, but plenty of fun tools luckily. Thanks for taking a look.

Yeah, if I had nice points to show, I'd post them as well 🙂, but I do like my small artifacts.

Ha ha. Thanks for the vote but I'm sure there will be a 5 inch pine tree or g10 Clovis that will get posted for the month.

Hey Mike, I really like the flake tools and that's a good one. Made from an overshot percussion flake certainly adds to the beauty.

Thanks Ron. I really like them also. Sometimes you have to look one over to figure out what the purpose might be. Gets the noodle working more than a straight forward point.

That is a very cool tool!

I think a lot of paleo sites in Ohio & Indiana are just too deep for the plow to hit. You get the rare creek that produces, and some isolated finds in fields, but most paleo artifacts that were in the ground are still in the ground.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm glad you commented, I value your input, especially on the older stuff. I mostly find woodland artifacts on that site but I will get teased with something like this sometimes. Confusing. Makes sense what you said about being too deep to find most times.

That is true in most places. People scratch the surface with a plow. Most dont have a clue what's never been seen 5ft down.
