  • 3/4 Grooved Ax for Fathers Day!

The corn is thick and the beans are coming on in SW Ohio so I was off to the creeks and ravines today. My "Big Sandy" gravel bar didn't give up any flint but it did hand over a 1920-30's cork top.

A mile hike in the heat brought me to one of my ravines for the day and it handed me a vintage marble.

The ravine held lots of broken glass but no arrowheads as I climbed it. I got to my usual turn around and was outa water so I started back. In a pile of stones and mud I noticed that one of the rocks had a groove in it. NO WAY... Yes way. My first 3/4 grooved ax.

Thanks all for the positive comments. Lukecreekwalker, I had come to the opinion that they just weren't in my area but obviously I was wrong. Bruce, hope the trip went well for you. What is it about these marbles? We all find them while searching for other stuff. Another item I can research.
              good luck out there, fldwlkr

Those marbles remind me of a time in my youth when there were no hassles and every day was a play day.

It's wet for the picture to show off the material. When dry it's a gray/green with nice polish on the bit and groove.
