  • More obsidian from the creek.

Took a walk in the creek this morning.

Too hot to spend a whole lot of time but I did find a few pieces.

    Here's the best of it.

An obsidian cobble (rare find for me), two scrapers made from spalls , a round-tipped point and a nice leaf shaped point

      I'm not sure either.

I think most of my finds are middle or late archaic, but I'm extrapolating based on the mortars I've found.

I've hardly been able to type any obsidian, my points just don't quite match the pictures in Overstreet.

It's frustrating not to know so you end up making guesses.

Doesn't help identification that they are so water worn. But never the less you are finding them and the first to hold them since they were used. That in itself is pretty cool.

I'm about half way between the Napa obsidian source and those at Clear Lake.

Groups around here controlled those resources and traded them all over.

          Rare to find anything else.

              Great map.

You can see why obsidian was the dominant material around here.

I'm halfway between Napa and Mt. Konocti.
