  • Creek finds

Jumped down in one of the creeks adjacent to my site in Lawrence Co Tenn this April after all the flooding rains and stuff was all over...some pouring out of the floodplane bank across from the high ground where I normally find my stuff. Spent about 8 hrs over 2 days just in this creek and brought back about 25lbs of rock and chert. Some very weird stuff that I've never seen, wish I could get it in someones more knowledgeable hands. Some of it's really water stained and some looks like it just came out of the ground. It's killing me knowing I won't be back til around November!!! Click image for larger version

Lots of rocks but you found 4 hard stone pieces? Just in 2 days. I also saw a couple of points mixed in . Must be nobody looking there to be able to find 2 axes and 2 which looks to be Celts

I agree with the fellas. 4 hardstones & a couple of maybe points. The rest look like rocks. Looks like you have a sweet spot considering few here will ever find a hard stone, much less 4. Congrats.

Yep hard stone is really rare in my part of the world. I’ve been hunting for almost 40yrs and have only found one hard stone axe.

Thanks for looking guys, I didn't realize stone pieces are that rare...consider myself blessed. In the 5 years I've been visiting I never ventured in the creek til this spring. I don't believe anyone else has been walking it either, it's pretty small and very shallow spring fed.

So did you really find all of them just this week?

Not this week, back in April when I was down south as I stated in the first post. I spent 5 weeks in the area helping a bud on his farm and found all that stuff plus more in 2 visits in the creek. I'm hoping word didn't get out because it accessible with a moderate walk, the fields on either side are private...owned by my bud.

I asked cause grooved axes are rare in Tennessee and even more rare in Georgia. Celts still rare but not like a ax head that’s grooved like those

I would definitely spend some more time in the creek.

Fantastic piece. Looks like a broken heal on the hafted part but still a great find.

Oooh, oooh, I want the beautiful “Mushroom” appearing in middle of 3rd & 4th Group pictures... when you’re done/tired of it, that is, of course... I’ll come to your Weird Creek to fetch it personally, b/c want to rub your head for good luck! You have extraordinary finds……so bizarre!!! (Don’t share this, but arrowheads lowest on my WishList..... shhhhh!!)

(I think conventionally, Mushroom possibly Driller, and little perpendicular-laying guy last row looks like “flipping finger”, possibly perforator/gouger/graver.....)

Lol...I too really enjoy looking at the odd tools trying to figure how they were held and used. I credit the rain gods for rearranging the creek this past winter and opening my eyes to what's there.
                      Working...
