Nice night time find, never seen anything like it around Lauderdale Co before. Found a nice scraper right before this piece

Can’t tell in pic 1&2, is it flat on the other side ? Nice score on that Fred!

Close but no volcano! Probably some high grade chert... Obsidian is so close to glass that it's all but unmistakable

I e got a couple pieces of that, and thought it was obsidian too, until I was given a piece of actual obsidian.

that still one of my favorite lithics.👍

          Knox is a good call.

If the white stuff is chalky cortex, there is an outside chance it could be one of the English flints that came over in a load of ballast stones. A couple of better pictures might help.

It's not obsidian and, perhaps, a little too dark for classic English flint, I think chert my be the right call.

Your scraper might be a knife, your obsidian might be a big piece of slag glass.

I haven't handled any Knox that was that translucent, almost looks purple. Interesting.

                  Any bubbles in it?

The good quality slag glass wont have many bubbles in it.
