  • Rhyolite points

Found a couple of rhyolite points today. I have shown this before but here is two more. Our acidic soil works havoc on a lot of the rhyolite points. These are so deteriorated that all flaking scars are gone. some of the rhyolite holds up better than these not sure the reason why. Click image for larger version

Those will have to be sprayed with clear paint or they will continue to crumble apart. or some Gomer solution

2000 years and those would be sand

Good eye, I would probably have missed those, just scan right by, never registering. I have enough to deal with looking past all the broken pointy black shale up here.

Hey Johnny, Real nice finds. The elements were viscous on those points. I would use Gomers Solution.

Johnny that acid from the sand can be worse then the beach imo . I have two examples that are just about sand again . Really glad you shared this I thought they might be Chert but they do look like these and have that volcanic poris look to them .

Chert will do the same Tam but my experience it has to be down below water table for a long time, found one that was like that and a friend finds them often. Chert you have to be gentle with them until they dry and coat them soon

Those I would probably walk right past. I do have some worn points made out of sugar quartz.

Johnny, I have so many rhyolite pieces that look very much like the ones you've shown. I'll have to google Gomer's Solution. I'm making a box of different lithics found in this area. I have a couple of nice raw rhyolite. I think there must have been varying grades. I have a couple of nice pieces, not artifacts, that a deep blue green and feel smooth like chert.
