This one looks amazing under a magnifying glass, probably more amazing under a good microscope. 2 3/8 by 1 1/2 coral Marion found by me in Pasco County Florida. This one was shallow digging, literally 2 or 3 inches in the ground. Looks like both ears were original cortex and as usual this one looks alot better in person.

Very cool point....I’m gonna post this for folks that aren’t familiar with fossil Coral...It roughly explains how this point was taken out of a coral head.... I think the barbs were intentionally snapped ( two cortexes across from one another don’t work ) and ground, pic7, then over time, the polyps leached out and became a crust or cortex, ( I have a thing about snapping,.. Lol., ? A classic Marion ...

Hal, thanks for the detail fossil coral explanation. I didn't even think about the barbs being ground and the polyps leaching out. That definitely makes alot more sense because honestly I found it wierd that cortex would be on both barbs like that but I don't doubt too much of anything when it comes to chert and coral.🐜 🎤 SW Georgia
