  • It's an Oldie

Well I had a couple of hours yesterday to go hit a local private creek. I've found quite a few artifacts in the past there mostly Adena things. Yesterday I was walking it and not finding anything not even a flake until I went to one large gravel bar and actually said out loud. Wait whats that walked over to it got down on my knees and took the picture. It looked like Rhyolite as I picked it up I saw the colors were from creek dust so I walked over and rinsed it off. Tomorrow I will wash it better and add some other pictures. This is a old artifact a Hardaway which dates 9-10k years old depending on the type which i believe is a Hardaway Palmer. It was a nice surprise Click image for larger version

That's a cracker, Glen. Really nice. A Hardaway, and a dang nice one too. Skilled hand on that. Everything you want in a point (including a unbroken tip). I hope you find something even nicer, this month, but I doubt you will.
    Happy for you, man.

That's a good one, and a rarity at that; I was going to go back to my quartz site this past week but it rained alot. Too muddy and it's the type of thick mud that it will steal your shoes right off your feet. If things go right this coming weekend I'm planning on going to Henry County Alabama.

Not many hardaways in Eastern NC, but when I lived in the central part of the state I got to handle lots! There aren't many serrated hardaways, and in the same breath there aren't many Palmer's with the hardaway base. I guess that's the definition of a cross type. That thing is dang near fluted on the one side! What a killer~

Well here are the dry pictures. Always in a creek they are one color then when they dry out they turn color and usually go black. Looks like Basalt is the material unless its a different type of chert but still grainy texture. Click image for larger version
