  • Finally on the board! Kalamazoo pipe field.

Hunted the field yesterday with Jonnyv. Not an easy hunt. The field is still dry as a bone. Everything is the same color and we need a good downpour to wash of the surface finds. The farmer set the plow for a deep turn this spring and in a few areas the plow reached usually untouched soil which I focused on. I only found one point stuck to the wall of a deep furrow. Not sure of the type. It has micro serrations that are hard to photograph. The edge and base are still very crisp and sharp. This is the first of this type I’ve found on this site and I’m not even sure of what type of material it is. I’m very happy to have found it. Thanks for taking a look.

Thanks. I got home from the hunt a bit late and just did a cleanup. Haven’t dove deep into the books yet for a more in-depth ID. It measures

Thanks North. I was leaning towards a Hopewell type. Only took 3 hours of searching LOL. Found it on the same small hill as 99% of my other finds.

Trash into mash: I read Hopewells good at fine serrations.

Hi Trav. I looked at some of my resources to see if I could assist you on a type ID. The type that it seems to most resembles is a Table Rock which supposedly is a Middle Archaic type. Your point was used as a knife. As far as the lithic goes? I have not got a clue. Weird looking stuff.

Thanks SJ. Well the plot thickens. It does resemble a Table Rock as well. Dates for this small site swing through all eras. Thanks for the input.

I agree with sailorjo, looks like Table rock point to me, my second edition of Overstreet shows one similar and i like it better than the regional books

Thanks North. Looking at the profile I think Table Rock may be a good fit. The material has me scratching my head though.

I’m assuming that the base is knapped and not ground?

It does not look ground by pictures. Use your fingers on the bottom of the base. If ground it should feel duller than the blades edges.
