  • Beauties from the Brazos

    I dug these last year. We had a screen dig going. I saw a nice spot of ash and charcoal in the sand wall about 6ft deep. I scooped it up an Click image for larger version

ID:	610982 d put it on a screen table, then hopped off the skid steer to see what was in it. I wasn't disappointed.

                        The big one is a Gahagen . Super rare birdie age knife. Quite a few have been found in burial mounds across Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Most(some ague all) were made on the Brazos and gifted to Caddo rulers as no indication of manufacture exists in the villages around the mounds nor any used examples. Most of these were made of Brazos cobble sourced very near our site.. We found 11 of them over 2 years.

                        Odd as it may seem from that pic, the small blade is made from a scrap of the same spall left over when making the big one. The color difference is the result of the small one soaking all day in water while the larger was just rinsed and put in a frame. Both dry, it is clear they are from the same mother stone.
