  • Something good popped today

Fields got some rain yesterday still needs more but I checked them anyway and I’m glad I did. Found the quartz point first then later I saw a flat rock sticking out of a dirt clog. I went in for the reach and pull. Wasn’t sure so I didn’t get the mud pic but I’m think you can tell what was sticking out. Still have to look it up for a type. I’m hoping I don’t have to shrink them to small for a post. Click image for larger version

I have to let it dry. It’s shaped but not the best Celt I have ever found. Don’t get me wrong I will put it in my frame. I’m hoping there are more in that spot have to wait on more rain

Yeah, from your pics. I can’t make out a ground bit… perhaps it was never complete d, or I just can’t see it…. Post new pics. When you can….👍

Well I know it was being shaped that’s why I said I’m hoping for more from that area. It has a bit but I’m not seeing the same use wear like on my other Celts. First field found Celt for me

Okay North be honest cause I’m thinking preform Celt now. I’m not seeing a bit. It has been shaped on the side and top. Maybe there will be more Click image for larger version

Well if you ever wondered what came first the shaping or the bit I guess it’s been solved. I have to admit I am disappointed it’s a preform

I have one that is similar.. I wonder why it was never finished… there is a good chance of finding more celts or other hardstone pieces in that area.
always exciting to find pieces like that… looks to be a promising site… good luck on future hunts……👍

Might have been used like a pestle? Definitely n ately shaped. Cool find regardless.

Who knows surface, maybe it is a finished product for use....if not, preform is still cool, right?.....the beginning stages of an artifact...either way, better than coming away empty handed.....you seem to be on a roll.....what abt that quartz point u found along with the other find?....any damage or complete?......either way looked like a good day

AGREE; could have been used for something else. We don't know 100%

Might be a pestle but if it is I’ve never found a flat one. On the point I’m thinking MM. this is the same field I found a Big Sandy and a nice end scraper in. Not a lot of artifacts in it but enough to keep me looking. I will post if I find anything else. He planted corn so I have to get back out there soon. I’ve never seen corn grow so fast as these new seeds they have nowadays

I see where it’s been used on the “bit end” I also see a lot of plain marks but that’s stating the obvious. Good rock garden piece

I like it Glenn. I also like Gar’s suggestion of a pestle. But there’s a reason why I think that’s a good call. I have something very similar. It’s the only piece I’ve actually sought out an archaeologist help with. He said exactly what Gar said about yours. Lots of green stone on my land. You would think I could find an axe or celt but no luck yet. Nice find!
