  • Indian Artifacts Magazine

I received a notice by mail the other day that Gary will no longer be publishing his Magazine. "Indian Artifacts Magazine" It is a shame but shrinking customer base and rising costs to publish have probably brought this decision on. I will miss getting my quarterly subscription from the Fogleman's .

There is a notice on his website as well. http://indian-artifacts.net/

I have known Gary for about 35 years. There's much more to his discontinuing the magazine. I helped him quite a few times with layouts, photos, etc., and after over 30 years of publishing, it get's extremely tiring. The effort and time, travel, correspondance, verifying stories are true, travelling thousands of miles, sorting through photos and stories, and so much more. The magazine was a major, very tiring project. He needed to slow down, and take a much needed break. Everyone who received the magazine and enjoyed it, probably didn't realize the efforts Jo and Gary put into making the magazine. Every magazine offered something of educational value, and I'll miss getting it for sure.

Paul can correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe Gary was unable to find a buyer to continue it. Which, in this day and age, is very understandable really....

He almost had a buyer for the magazine and all the rights from N.Y., but that didn't work out. For G10+, I have 90 different back issues of the magazine that I am selling for a friend of mine. That's roughly 22 years worth!! Lots of information there! I haven't figured out a price, or how to sell them. Some of the very early issues are worth between $15-$20 apiece, but I'm not going to be anywhere near that. I guess send me a PM if interested, or if anyone is interested. I'd like to sell them all at one time, but if that doesn't work out, I will list them in my store and I'll do a year at a time, 4 issues.

Ray, I found your picture. Some nice finds! Two untyped, ( although you probably have them typed by now ) a possible Kramer point, and a boatstone! Cool!

In regards to the Indian Artifact Magazine, I have those listed now in my store at: www.ravensrelics.com. I have complete sets, from 1986 to 2009. There are only three issues for 1986. The years 1987 and 1989 are sold. That leaves 85 issues. All different. The articles and photos were always aimed toward the average to serious collector, like you and me. There's very little involving the professional world of archaeologists. The magazine existed because of the collectors writing about their own experiences and showing photos of their finds, much like this forum. There is just a wealth of information covering all parts of the country. If anyone is interested, please contact me at my email address which is posted in my store. Thanks! And everyone have a Great Thanksgiving! ( We're having squirrel, less fattening !! )

Thanks Paul. Yeah, probably Kramer, a Waubesa, and an early Archaic corner. Gary is one of the Good Guys and his publication will be missed.
