Which artifact magazines or periodicals are the most useful for subscription

  • #2
Hi Dave and welcome to the forum.
I would recommend signing up to "Arrowhead Collecting on the Web" here:

It's free to subscribe online and get a monthly bulletin (you have to pay for the paper version). You can also download all the back issues for free. You will get occasional mail inviting you to buy publications or attend knapping demonstrations but you won't be knee-deep in spam. They don't sell your email address on to anyone else.
I keep six honest serving-men (they taught me all I knew); Their names are What and Why and When and How and Where and Who.

My favorite for years has been Central States Archaeological Journal. You can join your state society, and you'll get 4 quarterlies. http://csasi.org/subscribe_to_csas.htm
Also, Indian Artifact Magazine has been around awhile- http://indian-artifacts.net/
The glossiest with the fanciest relics is Prehistoric American- http://www.prehistoricamerican.net/
All of these are good quarterlies. I like the Central States Journal because of the personal find stories, and a bit more archaeology. IAM gets into the politics and the fakes more. Prehistoric American is a coffee table magazine with nice pictures.
You can also get the AACA Magazine for free online- www.theaaca.com

Cliff nailed it with Central States. Along with the journals you can attend shows in your area and that is where you meet some very nice people that will usually give you a pointer or two!

Cliff covered the bases. Although I'm not familiar with their quarterly, just thought I'd mention, since you're from Missouri, that your own state society has a quarterly publication as well. Their webpage also has a list of publications by county in Missouri.

Hmm. Just checked out their "To the Point" archive, a section that is a regular feature of their quarterly. Looks like it's likely a good periodical.
