This excellent documentary was shown on the "American Experience" PBS series recently, but is no longer available on their website without membership. I had never heard of this event, though I was certainly around in 1980 when it happened. Of course, as the story makes clear, the federal government preferred that the public know as little as possible concerning the night we came close to wiping the state of Arkansas off the map. And there have been hundreds of other nuclear accidents as it turns out.
Anyway here's a copy of "Command and Control", and the tale of how very, very close we came. Luck alone spared us, when you come right down to it....
