Knife? what material?

I need help again. I not sure if this is a knife or some kind of stone tool. The material looks like a dark rocky type with white or cream color specks throughout. It's been worked pretty good and has large flaking.One end is hafted and been ground. It was found in Southern Illinois  It is 4 3/8 inches long and 3/4" thick. I would appreciate any help. thanks Dean

it seems too finished to be a preform.definatly a something though! hopefully people smarter than me will chime in for ya!

Looks like a chipped Adze to me. Maybe it is fossileferous chert. Can not see the material too good. do you have a Jewelers Loupe? Magnify it and see if you see tiny fossils in there.

I think Hoss hit it on the nose with an adze!
