  • Skinning Knife

I found this in the USA, Illinois in the Vermillion River.
It is about 7 inches long, 4 inches wide and 2 inches thick.
It fits nice in the hand with a spot for the thumb and the 4 fingers on the back.
Thought maybe it was a skinning knife?

Hello 70Vette and welcome from Will County, Illinois...always nice to hear from a fellow flatlander. The one edge looks like maybe there are some flake marks on it but from the angles shown its hard to say for sure. Can you post some pics of that top side in the first pic ? Again welcome to the site...

I think that is natural. Water worn flake at best. Keep looking👍

Welcome Aboard 70Vette69. That 2nd set of pics is much better. That edge is very water worn from washing around. The chipping looks more like direct hits to the edge rather than a knapping or pressure flaking technique. However, we have some knappers here that will probably be better able to tell for sure. Let's see what they have to say.

It does look natural-ish but let's see what the others say.
