It is interesting how along the single crack that runs downward everything slightly shifts out of place. Like a fault line.

For all of those that said the rock I found was naturally formed it was....from the Ohio State University.....

"Thank you for reaching out to us. I sent these photos to our Geology Museum curator, Dale Gnidovec. He shared them with some colleagues, and together they reached this consensus:

"That rock stumped us geologists - identifying such things from photos alone can be difficult - but here is a possible explanation.

We think it is a rock brought here by the glaciers. Perhaps a billion or two years ago in what is now Canada there was a lake whose bottom was slowly filling with sandy sediment. During winters when the lake became frozen over the water became still enough for the very fine clay particles to settle down, forming very thin layers. The sediment was eventually buried very deep, perhaps miles in the crust, where the heat and pressure caused the sand grains to meld together, forming a rock called quartzite. Millions of years later the quartzite was exposed at the surface, where pieces were broken by weather and erosion. One piece was picked up by a glacier and carried to Ohio. The glaciers didn't enter Ohio once - the came multiple times, at least 18. Each time they came the rock was carried closer to where it was found. All that weathering and erosion caused the very thin layers of clay, being softer, to recede more than the hard quartzite, forming the recessed lines.

It is only an idea but it is plausible."

Gary knew what he was talking about for sure...still pretty neat. Certainly not something you come across every day here in Ohio.
