  • Kirk stemmed? Or Randolph?

Hello friends! Another rainy, dreary day in NC so thought I'd post a favorite find from earlier this year. Chatham County in central NC. It's a beautiful black material, the only one I've found like this. Thought it might be a Randolph but it seems too thin and nicely flaked? So maybe a Kirk stemmed? The base appears to be snapped. Love any thoughts!

Hi HikerGalNC that sure is a nice find. I see why that's a tough call it has Randolph like flaking but does not have a tapered rounded stem. Not all points fit perfectly into their type. The base does have a Kirk look but my best guess is that it is a Randolph. I've been wrong before so I hope others will chime in. I think of Kirk Stemmed as being more nicely flaked and finer serrations. Regardless it is a beautiful find!

I think Sugaree has it right unless it was a Kirk knapper that flaked that one special for HALLOWEEN
