  • Large point found in Austin Texas. What did I find?

Collected 50 years ago the point was found in Austin Texas while improving a flowerbed. This was not collected in the wild. It is an exceptional example of something. I watched it dug out of the soil and immediately romanticized a War Hammer. No other points or artifacts were found at this location.
    What did we find.

That is an interesting artifact. Out of my area, so I can't help. Looks like a double tang knife, but I've never heard of a tang being double sided. Hopefully someone on here will know. I'll be watching to see what it is.

Not sure what that thing is, but I agree with SDhunter, I like it.

If it were on eBay I’d just assume someone rechipped an older broken piece to have two bases, but it sounds like your family found it long enough ago that it’s probably a unique old piece.

My best guess would be a notched hoe of some sort.

The more that I look at this point the more I believe it is a dalton hardaway knife type.

In overstreet it looks like a Rodgers side Hallowed .Early Archaic 10,000 -8000 B.P.
Then it says Dalton , or it could be a San Patrice St .Johns variety .
Not a typer but like the others said it looks old from the base .

Looks like it might be really large for a San Patrice but I have to say, if it's real, you might be on to something Tam. Didn't know about those points. Learned something here.

Hello all, glad to present something interesting! Here are some more photos. This is a robust peice. Thick and well constructed. A contributor mentioned that it could be a spade. This usage speaks to thickness of the point and edges. It would do the job.
