  • Stone plummet Pike Co IL

Came across this awesome guy today. Believe it is a stone plummet. Found ontop of a mound looking spot in a field that has a ton of flint. Heard plummets were also used as grave offerings fishing weaving etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys..

That's a beautiful Plummet and looks like it's in perfect shape. Personally I don't believe they were used as fishing tackle.

You found it in a field... that's all the authentication you need in my opinion. People tend to write about chert and leave all the cool hardstone out of the books. That's probably why you haven't heard much about them. Find of a lifetime... keep that hill to yourself. A winged bannerstone might be out there waiting for you.

Well thank you sir, I appreciate the feed back. Do you think that this was a ceremonial piece then?

There is much debate about their use. Were they functional or decorative? I can't say if it is ceremonial or not. I can say it is well made and an excellent find.
