  • Lizard flute

This was in and old collection the owner passed in 60's or 70's and collection was stored in a basement for years. I bought a lot of it a couple years ago and this flute was in it. Not sure if it is a tourist piece or authentic, curious if any one has seen something like it Click image for larger version

Wiljo I'm thinking It's the real thing. To intricut for the trade shops. Can't tell how old, but it's not ancient. some others will be more familiar with this one. Very nice to have. Even old trade pieces are bringing in a good value. Kim

Cool piece. It looks a lot like a Pre columbian flute style called a tlapitzalli. I've seen some from Mexico/Guatemala based on Gila Monsters and the related species called a Beaded lizard.

It looks like a well made tourist piece to me, very well could be from the 1950's to 1970's. Some of the more recent ones actually have a plastic reed, or McDonald's straws in them, and are usually more adorned with Aztec heads and more vibrant colors.

Kind of doubt it's age as well but that really doesn't matter, a very cool piece.
